I guess i’ve been working on and off since christmas, this project has taken up most of my time. It’s a reworking of the artwork i created last year, but being re-released state side…. its not very often you get a second shot at artwork so i did everything i could to turn it into what i wanted.

Good evening all,

If anyone was wondering where i'd gotten to then hopefully this blog will explain all! I took it upon myself to take some time out from illustration as i felt things were getting a little bit stale and my work wasn't really going in the direction i had once hoped. This was mainly down to a portfolio of work that i was confident in at the age of 20 but four years on i don't feel its relevant to me and it certainly doesn't represent me.

So although brief i hope that explains things to a certain extent, please now turn your attention to my latest bit of work. This is not a commission but instead a personal piece. I will continue to produce these over the next few months in an effort to create a portfolio that i am once again proud of.

All feed back welcome as usual, i hope you enjoy this piece.

This isnt actually finished, like full thing but this is the cover so i can post this as Matt is fine with it.

Its quite hard to explain the direction of this because you need to hear the CD which you can, when its out!

bloody nora, its been that long already?

Just been working on a few things really, this being one of them and it comes in two colours. down side is they sold out the week they came out. doh.

Don't worry new batch out soon, what else is there? well working on a wicked band call the spring offensive, lovely chaps brilliant music. You can have a listen over at www.myspace.com/springoffensive. I will be working on the new album with them to be release sometime early next year.

Apart from that i don't really think alot is going down. i might be really lame and do a Christmas montage, then again maybe i wont.

Yep! its that time of year again, i think this is my first ever Halloween poster so i thought i best make it a good one, its for a clothing company in Stroud thats having a bit of a bash on this hallowed night.

Other than this im still slaving on Embrace the tides new artwork and also putting together a flyer for Hi-Lite windows not the most creative job but its all a learning curve.

Set a plan in motion to gain representation next year but ill report back on that later i suppose.

Best of Luck to Brian Ewing who got bitten 7 times by a Brown recluse the other day, hope the bites heal.

So, i've been up to the usual antics..... drawing things colouring things drawing more things buying seinfeld episodes and right now i am bloody exhausted!

This bit of art is one of my latest efforts its acutally quite along bit of artwork but this is one of the focal points of it, strangley this job and the POA job came back to back, they are both "space" related but what ever i dont mind.

I'm trying hard to keep the balance going strong, between working at work and working on my illustration stuff.
Looks like its going to be a long winter either way!

Well,

its been some time since i have properly posted, things are moving quite fast i cant even fathom that we are almost in June. Seriously where the hell did the year go? I'm going to visit Boston in August have a proper look around!

In terms of work, i have a few things that ive got going .....

currently sorting a shirt for plague of ashitaka, another one on the way for through solace and under Z.I.D we are hopefully creating a set of T-shirts for Zebrahead.

im sure there are other bits and bobs but thats like current "work"

Now for something slightly interesting i suppose the work i posted before was an illustration by Iain MacArthur i have been working with him to create the Art work for EVITA, its all finished now and alot of it can be seen on evita's myspace www.myspace.com/evitaband. I coloured it all and did the layout/graphics .

Its out July 13th and is bloody brilliant!

what else is going on?

I'm selling my BMX, i broke my ST and need to replace the clutch, well pay for the what i have replaced. Its on ebay so message me and ill give you a link. Really busy at work but met yet more cool people the creator of THE IRON MAN, did the wood cut style illustrations and also IRON WOMAN. Did some table matts for Kieth Allen umm yeah thats about it i suppose.

So, another year another place .

I've been back at home now for around 5 months and I'm really enjoying it, obviously bits are different but its mostly good.
Chris has moved up to take a job running the art shop/ gallery in town and so we decided to pick up Zed is Dead properly (www.myspace.com/zedisdeaddesign).

Due to this, I'm not really doing an awful lot of my own work but rather doing it under the house name of Z.I.D and combining ideas and work with Chris.

Probably the most difficult part about being back here is that my girlfriend of three years is still in swindon but we are working at it!
I feel i have gained a massive amount of knowledge from working in the print job. I have certainly improved my typography and my understanding of Hue and Saturation.

Anyway that the boring stuff out the way, for anyone who does regularly check out my work here's what I've been doing.
I colour a comic for Chris called SpiltMilk. spiltmilkcomic.livejournal.com, it seems to be quite popular so keep your eyes peeled on that. We also have a couple of big jobs in the pipeline for the next few months so keep checking back with our Z.I.D project which will soon be a live website housing Spiltmilk and Z.I.D just got to work it all out, i will post anything when i know a bit more.

I designed this for yankeeboy as part of an ongoing batch of posters for the furnace. The idea stems from being in an office everyday and how rubbish that is. I thought that was a nice twist to everyday hell. When i came to draw it my hand was clearly not attached to my brain and it turned into something else but im fairly happy with it.

Still working with Yankeeboy who is putting on some cool shows in Swindon and Andover. This poster was quite obviously for a Bleeding Through show that he has coming up, the girl in the picture is losely based around the keyboardest in the band.

I didnt want to go to dark with it because i think all that imagery has been done for this band, so instead i sort of hint at it with the colour.

Got this Job late last night, spent ages trying to work out what the hell to do. For no reason at all i thought about drawing a rabbit, found this crazy picture of this guy holding a giant rabbit and thought it was pretty funny so i drew it up a little exagerated.

Ill be honest, not a massive fan of the colouring but i guess it does the job, i also think ive prioritised the images quite nicely objectivley.

I will be doing a few more and will keep the world posted on my progress.

I havent really been doing much lately, infact ive had a really crap time.
Loving the new job but being at home is taking its toll, i didnt really realise how much things were going to change to be honest but ill work through it.

I found a really cool book shop in my home town that ive moved back to and i picked up a sick mucha book that is not for sale in borders or waterstones. If anyone has £65 that they want to part with they have an even larger version that i simply cant afford.

I'm working on a few other things right now but nothing major, if and when i do ill post it but for now it will mostly be sketches and things.

oh yeah i have also miss placed my myspace password so that wont get updated for a while.

This is pretty much the finished article for the first of my third year work, all these past terms i have been working towards producing imagery for a fictional calendar that is based of the mythological adventures of hercules, most importantly the 12 labours of hercules.
This was the 6th labour to slay the Stymphalian Birds, and this is also my interpretation. Most of my back up work is also on here. The Birds are hand rendered as are the roses, although the roses are coloured on here. The border is also hand rendered an coloured on here.

So, my deadlines are drawing closer and closer. I have arrived back at my original project hoping to complete it in the next few days. This experiment is based on my previous worked containing animals and so on. I have used pencils to work things out, then worked in with water colour and ink and finished up with pens and ink, im trying to give the image a certain 'flow' and all of the final image will be a mix of everything i have done this year.

This is a reworking of the design i had done previously for sinking ship promotions, basically had to design a myspace 'header' which is easier said than done. Using a Combination of photoshop, Illustrator and photography ii ended up with this, it took around 2 days to complete in full.

This took Forever!

The first bit of work i did for WATO, working with the idea of 'nothing good has happened yet' and the fact Jack (WATO) had told me what the song was about. I came up with the idea that this guy, that bad luck wont leave alone, has hit the final leg of his life. I was thinking that maybe he should be drowning but it would be obvious and i didn't think anyone would expect him to be falling through new york, so there you have it. It referenced from a ariel photo of NY but i couldn't tell you where, obviously buildings arent bendy either!

sort of got a multi angle thing going on to, try spinning it around

Remember the inlay that i did the other day? well apparently it was toooo cartoonie! so now i worked back into it to create this version in a wonderful colourie fashion.
I'm quite pleased with it because i suck at doing flesh tones these girls are a little bit to shiney but i figured its kind of cool? any way this will be out soon enough and i will let you know when.

This is the finished thing, minus the actual cd stuff what does everybody think?

Its quite large about A1 sort of size and was all inked as one then separated on photoshop traced in illustrator and coloured in illustrator.

So im am sat in a small pub in frampton drinking spitfire and watching my dads friends play skittles, yes this is the perfect way to relax when you have been living in swindon but the problem is my dissertation. You must of read it a thousand times on the internet but it is as bad as it seems. Im writing about the evolution of the rock poster , its great. No really. I have written about the beetles and the animals bob dylan to name but a few. I just find it really hard to progress . Luckly my girlfriend is kind enough to help me make sense of it i just have to get the bulk of it to progress it is lame but thank you katherine , i love you. What else has happened? I moved home this week to tackle this issue but i ended up buying more mods for my focus. That wil be a long lasting thing. On top of my dis i have a tee to complete for drag the lake and the cd art work for something for some one which i want to do my best with, but just find it hard to concentrate. I should have it up by thursday latest so that will be another weight off my mind. Dont worry world . Last week i came face to face with this years examiner, oh what fun we had that day! It soon became apparent that it was going to be much more difficult for us to achieve our much hoped grades, personally this made me angry and i felt a bit like i was wasting my time but you what ? shit happens.

On the back of all this i have made progress, i have decided to scrap the idea of a calendar for now and work on making this just awesome, i guess you will see more over that in the coming weeks but for now i think honestly i have to concentrate on my dissertation so it may go a bit quite in terms of work.

Other news, I am now doing Something For Someone’s art work for the next few releases so ill post that soon, also i just did WEARETHEOCEAN or WATO for short? i dont know if im cool enough to say that, it comes out in a week and few days time so check there myspace, www.myspace.com/wearetheoceanuk.

actually i broke my mac, it really pissed me off and i was quite upset but i fixed it so im much happier again, god dont you feel weird when your main form of communication decides it doesn’t like you any more?

So over summer i was approached by the DayDream Network, for some work to be included in there next book, which obviously i was quite excited about.
Avue (co - owner) sent me over these word from Whereastheturningpoint and i got set on making an image!

THE TEXT People like a fast-food meal “I know how to get him. I’ll ring him at 2 or 3, when he’s drunk, and I’ll ask him to take me home because I’ve drunk too much or something, and then, I’ll get him.” As I walk around the bar, I grasp little things from people, a smile, a joke, a quick look, a couple of lines from a conversation. I put them together in my mind, like a puzzle, trying to get the full picture. And so I see some parts clearly, some are still missing. He is having a couple of drinks with his friends, looking cool, having fun. She’s not there. She’s minding her own business; letting the men think she’ll have sex with them and stopping 1 inch before. That’s the business, whether they make money out of it or not. The real bitch isn’t the one who makes money out of sex; but the one who enjoys the power she gets over men through it… When he gets the call, when he gets the text, he feels he’s got it. Got her. One more night. He is the king, the burger king. Quality. Customer Service. Cleaning. And a fake smile, shining on a made up, painted face, covering layer and layers of real persona. She chooses between the Double Quarter Pounder (“with cheese, please”) and the Big Mac… and, yeah, they all want the BIG Mac. The only thing that really matters. “Would you like to make your meal bigger?” He eats tuna out of the can. A man like that, a heart like that deserves a banquet. Instead, he feeds his body with chunks and leaves his heart starving. Tuna out of the can. I used to eat that, ages ago. But the can stink under the sun, the morning after. And I couldn’t keep myself alive on it for long, neither can he. So the decision was heart or body. Some smelly chunks to keep me going? Food for today, hunger for tomorrow. Who cares? I have an excuse. In the morning we can say we were too drunk and wash our hands out of responsibility… while we face the consequences. But, what if the decision is the heart? Would we even know what to choose from? Would we cook a home-made meal? “Don’t they know they can’t get away with this? Treating people like a fast-food meal.” Whereas… The Turning Point
